Floriculture

Zygo Flowers Ltd.

The company is an exporter of fresh cut roses sourced from:

a) Owned and managed unit at Kollur Village, Doddbalapur, Karnataka, India and
b) sourced from 8 boutique rose growers in and around Bangalore.

The production facility (farm) is 40 minutes (30 km) from Bangalore city and near the new international airport. The strategic location reduces transportation costs for export merchandise and is located near a lake (in a catchment basin) making under ground water availability a smaller challenge.

The unit was set up in 1994 with technical collaboration with Flodac d.v., Netherlands (www.flodac.nl). Flodac d.v. is the world pioneer in roses and holds patent right to various cut rose varieties. They provided all of the initial equipment including greenhouses, irrigation system, shade sheets, rose cuttings and technology/information management systems.

In 2011, when the industry was struggling we revamped the entire facility consolidating to 3 larger sized green houses with India specific modifications. At the time, we invested heavily in rain water harvesting, cost rationalisation and management system overhaul. We also changed soil in all our greenhouses and replanted all flower beds including new varieties of roses from our own nursery and best in class Indian producers.

Roses are shipped daily by air to ensure that they reach the end consumer within 36 hours of harvesting. Our feedback from clients re-inforces our commitment that Zygo roses will last 22 days in our customers hands (without wilting) if handled properly. A state of the art grading room and cold room keeps the flowers at an ideal temperature in the range of 4-6oC Degrees from harvesting till dispatch. Our trained graders with over 15 years of experience each ensure right variety mix and stem length as per order specification. Theses graders also reject 10-20% percent of flowers if they don’t meet our strict criteria on micro worms, damaged buds, less foliage etc.

The company’s primary markets are New Zealand, Australia and Japan. In New Zealand the company sells it roses under the brand of Blue Water through its own distribution network and is the largest supplier to “Warehouse” - the leading super market chain.

In the recent past, we have been diversifying into other varieties of flowers including Bird of Paradise and Carnations. These varieties are for special clients and done on an order basis.

Further, we service orders from European markets and other clients in India (for marriages and large functions) on a time to time basis. We are especially busy during the high season right before Valentine’s Day and Mother’s day when the demand increases and cannot service individual orders during these times. We as a value add service have also handled sourcing of other flowers for a specific order and ensured, timely, quality hassle free delivery at door step for client.
